The roots orient quickly to gravity and head down into the soft soil. This is the beginning of that very important step of forcing the greens to reach for the light. As you can see, even though it has been just one day, there is considerable growth.

These radish seed roots blossom with root hairs ready to grab moisture to feed the plant. The root hairs on the radish are often mistaken for mold because of the dramatic white fuzzy appearance. Peas are not so dramatic; they seem to be in a hurry to send their tap root deep into the soil and have almost nothing for root hairs.
